Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Police then found multiple other marked vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police state preliminary tests suggest the fluid was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; officials are presently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities said they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for details.
An important political figure said the incident left him speechless and had to be solved rapidly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he posted on online, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on residents of migrant background in five years prior.
